First of all you need to understand that comic strips cannot be very long. They have to be short and snappy. Now you need a cartoon character to narrate your story. You would be amazed to know that many renowned cartoonist got their inspirations from the weirdest of all sources. The trick is to stick to one specialty. Like Dennis the Menace is always up to some gag, you will never come across a comic strip where you find him helping someone or studying. Or even if you think of funny Garfield, this big bulky cat is either eating or sleeping. Similarly, the theme for all your strip featuring a single character should remain constant. Next you have to come up with a background or a scenery. A comic strip can have any kind of background. The background can be detailed like that of the Archie comics or it can be simple and uncomplicated like the Garfield comics. So if you have a good hand at cartoon drawing and sketching then cartoon drawing can have an intricately detailed background. However, if you like to keep things simple then you can go with a very simple scenery, such as, dividing the box into two horizontal parts, one blue for the sky and another green for the ground.
Now you have a character, a story idea and a scenery or background. Just put all the three elements together. Bingo! There you go, you have your very own cartoon strip.
